Mirror Android to a Samsung TV

Samsung televisions use Screen Mirroring / Smart View. Of the 8 Android phone families we track, 5 can mirror to one over Wi-Fi, and 3 cannot at all because the two devices share no protocol.

How to mirror to a Samsung TV

Three steps, and the first is the one that decides whether the other two matter.

Confirm the pair can work

Find your phone in the table above. If it says Not over Wi-Fi, stop here - no app or setting will change that, and the fix is an adapter or a Chromecast.

Open mirroring on the Samsung

Source, then Screen Mirroring - or simply accept the prompt that appears on the TV

Then start from the phone

Same Wi-Fi network and same band on both. Several brands only advertise themselves once mirroring is already open on the TV, which is why scanning first so often finds nothing.

What else to know about Samsung TVs

  • Miracast has been supported on Samsung smart TVs since roughly the 2016 model year.
  • AirPlay 2 arrived on 2018 and newer models and is iOS-only.
  • Samsung TVs will silently refuse a connection in some setups where the TV is on Ethernet and the phone is on Wi-Fi.

If your phone is not compatible

There is no software fix for a missing protocol. Both of these are more reliable than wireless mirroring anyway.

  • A USB-C to HDMI adapter. Works on any phone with DisplayPort Alt Mode, needs no network, and has effectively no lag.
  • A Chromecast or Google TV streamer plugged into the Samsung, which gives it Google Cast support.

Samsung screen mirroring questions

Which Android phones can mirror to a Samsung TV?

Samsung Galaxy, Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO, OPPO / realme / vivo, Tecno / Infinix / itel, Huawei / HONOR can mirror to a Samsung TV over Wi-Fi. Google Pixel, OnePlus, Motorola cannot at all, because those phones and Samsung televisions share no mirroring protocol - no app can bridge that.

Where is screen mirroring in the Samsung menu?

Source, then Screen Mirroring - or simply accept the prompt that appears on the TV. Samsung televisions use Screen Mirroring / Smart View.

Why does my Samsung TV not show up when I scan?

Samsung TVs do not include Chromecast built-in. If your phone has no Miracast sender - a Pixel, most current OnePlus and Motorola models - it cannot mirror to a Samsung TV over Wi-Fi at all, no matter which app you install. If your phone and TV do share a protocol, the next things to check are that both are on the same Wi-Fi network and the same band, and that the network is not a guest network with client isolation switched on.

Does a Samsung TV support Miracast or Chromecast?

Samsung televisions accept Miracast.
