Why is there no audio when I mirror to my TV?
Audio and video travel as separate streams in most mirroring protocols, so video can succeed while audio silently fails. The usual causes are the phone routing audio to its own speaker, the TV being muted on the mirroring input, or the content being DRM-protected.
Step by step
- Check media volume on the phone, not ringer volume
Press volume up while something is playing, then open the volume panel and confirm the Media slider is up. Android keeps ringer and media volume separate, and mirroring uses media volume.
- Disconnect Bluetooth audio
If the phone is paired to earbuds, a speaker or a car, audio routes there instead of to the TV. Turn Bluetooth off entirely while mirroring.
- Check the TV's audio output setting
If the TV is set to output through an external soundbar or ARC and that device is off or on the wrong input, the mirrored audio goes nowhere. Temporarily switch the TV audio output to its internal speakers to confirm.
- Accept that DRM content will not mirror
Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and most other streaming services apply DRM that blocks mirrored output. Depending on the app you will get a black screen, silent video, or an on-screen error. This is deliberate and no mirroring app can bypass it - one that claims to would be circumventing content protection.
What cannot be fixed
When to use a different method
To watch Netflix or Disney+ on the TV, use the streaming service's own cast button, or install the service's app directly on the TV. Both deliver a better picture than mirroring anyway.
