Why does my phone say it does not support screen mirroring?
Because it probably does not. Google removed Miracast from Android in 6.0 and several manufacturers never replaced it, so phones like the Pixel and current OnePlus and Motorola models have no Miracast sender at all. They can still use Google Cast - but only to a TV that accepts it.
Step by step
- Work out which protocol your phone actually has
Nearly every Android phone with Google services supports Google Cast. Miracast is the one that varies: Samsung keeps it as Smart View, and Xiaomi, OPPO, realme, vivo and Huawei keep their own versions. Google, and recent OnePlus and Motorola releases, do not. If your phone lacks Miracast, the message is accurate rather than a fault.
- Check what your TV accepts
Samsung, LG, Roku and Fire TV accept Miracast and have no Chromecast built-in. Google TV, Android TV and Vizio are the reverse. Hisense, TCL, Sony and Philips ship more than one platform, so the answer depends on the individual set rather than the badge on the box.
- Look for the cast button inside the app instead
If you only want to watch one video, you may not need mirroring at all. YouTube, Netflix, Disney+ and most other streaming apps have their own cast button, which works over Google Cast and gives a better picture than mirroring would.
- Add the missing protocol with hardware, not software
Plugging a Chromecast or Google TV streamer into the TV gives it Google Cast, which almost any Android phone can reach. A USB-C to HDMI adapter skips the question entirely and needs no network at all.

When to use a different method
If your phone and TV share no protocol, a USB-C to HDMI adapter is the shortest route to a working picture. Check first that your phone supports DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C, since not every model does.
